It’s Conference Championship weekend! On Sunday we’ll see who goes to the Super Bowl. This year’s playoffs have been anything but boring. Jacksonville had a huge upset against the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Minneapolis Miracle was one of the most exciting finishes to a game in years. Which teams will make it to the Super Bowl? Let’s take a look:
Jacksonville Jaguars at New England Patriots
Sunday, 3:05 PM ET (CBS)
I still can’t get over how crazy last week’s Jaguars-Steelers game was. It was supposed to be a low scoring game and it ended up being 45-42. The Jaguars ran at will on the Steelers but the Steelers were able to pass effectively on the Jaguars top-rated pass defense. Will we see more of the same this week?
The key to neutralizing Tom Brady is applying pressure or sacking him. The Jaguars weren’t called Sacksonville for nothing. They had the 2nd most sacks in the league. They also have the best secondary in the league, but can they stop Rob Gronkowski? If they can do that, they have a shot at winning.
The Patriots defense is known for neutralizing the opponents strength and for the Jaguars that’s their rushing attack. That means it will be up to Blake Bortles to win the game for the Jaguars. I laughed that this notion last week but he proved everyone wrong. Can he do it again?
In the end, it will be very difficult to beat the Patriots in Foxboro. I see the Patriots winning but it might be close.
Prediction: New England 24, Jacksonville 19
Minnesota Vikings at Philadelphia Eagles
Sunday, 6:40 PM ET (FOX)
It’s Case Keenum vs Nick Foles for a chance to go to the Super Bowl. Casual fans are saying ‘who??’ Keenum has proved all year that he’s more than capable of helping a team win. Foles has not done it as long but he has looked pretty good in relief of Carson Wentz.
This game features two good defenses and two good running attacks. The difference will be the Vikings passing attack is better than the Eagles and that will be enough for the Vikings to squeak by.
Prediction: Minnesota 20, Philadelphia 16
