I know it is only Week 11 in the NFL season but I am going to preview Super 52 between the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots. The Eagles moved to 9-1 last night behind a very demanding 37-9 win against the banged up Dallas Cowboys on the road, and the New England Patriots moved to 8-2 with a 33-8 win over the Oakland Raiders in Mexico City.
First, let’s look at the Eagles. At 9-1 they are currently the #1 seed in the NFC and are rolling through the season. After starting 1-1 they have won 8 in a row and control their own destiny in the very good NFC – but right on their tails is the Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints at 8-2. I see only two games remaining that could give the Eagles trouble and that is @Seattle and @LA Rams. I predict that they go 1-1 at best in these two games and finish the season at 13-3 or 12-4 which I think would be enough for the #1 seed in the NFC. By no means do I think this will be an easy road through the NFC as the Vikings, Saints, Rams and Panthers are all going to be very tough games and I bet all come down to the wire. I think that Philadelphia’s defense and running game along with the fact that Wentz just won’t make big mistakes will make them prevail through the NFC at home and make it to Minneapolis for the Super Bowl.
Now let’s take a look at New England. The Patriots next 3 games should be easy wins against the Dolphins 2x and the Jets. Then their last 2 games are W’s against the Bills and Jets – but in between those 5 wins is probably the biggest game of their 2017 season, @Pittsburgh. The Steelers are currently the #1 seed in the AFC and the Patriots and Steelers will likely be playing for that #1 spot on December 17th in Pittsburgh. I am not sure who will come in as the #1 seed as the Steelers have a much tougher 3 game span leading up to this big matchup, but I am sure that this game will be for the #1 seed and the Patriots will win this game. The Steelers have been very inconsistent at times this season and I think New England will have continued success against Tomlin and the Steelers to become the #1 seed in the AFC. As we’ve learned, when the playoffs run through Foxboro that is usually bad news for the AFC and I think that the Patriots will run the table again pretty easily to get to Minneapolis to take on the Eagles.
As for the big game, I think this is going to be another thriller with New England and Philadelphia coming down to the wire. As a homer, and a Patriots fan I really would like our chances with 2 weeks to prepare against a very young quarterback in his first Super Bowl and I’d expect Belichick to give him fits. I would have to take our 5x Super Bowl Champion QB and coach to get their sixth.
The only question is, do Tom Brady and/or Bill Belichick walk into the sunset after their 6th Super Bowl win or do they come back and try for number seven?
