The New England Patriots defeated the Oakland Raiders 33-8 in Mexico City to move to 8-2 on the season. Tom Brady completed 30 of 37 passes for 339 yards and threw for three touchdowns and Brandon Cooks had a huge day with six catches and 149 yards in the air. Kicker Stephen Gostkowski tacked on three field goals, including a 62 and 51 yarder.
The Patriots defense held the Oakland Raiders to just 344 yards of total offense and a season low 8 points (most of which coming in garbage time). Derek Carr was held to just 235 yards passing and threw one interception. Marshawn Lynch was the one bright spot of the Raiders, getting 11 rushes for 67 yards – but being in the hole from the start they could not stay with that running attack for long.
This was the first game that New England played very well on both offense and defense and it is coming at a usual time for the Patriots. At 8-2 they are the #2 seed, tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers who they play on December 17th in Pittsburgh. Before that, the Patriots have two games against the Dolphins and one against the Bills – which should be three wins, bringing them into Pittsburgh at 11-2. The Steelers have games against the Packers, Bengals and Ravens. The AFC North games are always tough games to win but I think they come in at 10-3 or 11-2 as well making this December 17th game probably for the #1 seed in the AFC.
The Patriots are playing the best football of the season and I for one am looking forward to the playoffs and another Super Bowl run!
